As we close out the CHIME Foundation’s first quarter, we reflect on the CHIME HIMSS CIO Forum and other activities during the week of HIMSS. The week of the HIMSS conference is a large undertaking for all of us and our team strives to learn and grow from the experience.
Overall, CHIME and CHIME Foundation firm members found our four dynamic keynote speakers’ presentations relevant and meaningful, and the feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive. CHIME takes care to measure and track event satisfaction data from our members, which allows us to aim even higher for future events.
For the 2018 CHIME HIMSS CIO Forum, overall satisfaction scores echoed the positive comments that were received post-event (results include both CHIME CIOs and Foundation members). When asked if during the event “the goal of an interactive and educational discussion provided an opportunity to obtain feedback on challenges in the workplace,” 99 percent of respondents agreed. If you missed any of these well-received sessions, you can refer to the materials and presentations archived here:

Focus Groups provide great value for Foundation firms and CIOs alike. Hosting the in-person Focus Groups is a huge part of the CHIME Foundation’s mission at HIMSS. It is important to us that Foundation partners have the tools and support needed to implement Focus Groups that are engaging, dynamic and encourage productive discussion.
A few Focus Group stats include:
- 87 Focus Groups held
- 71 firms hosted Focus Groups
- Number of CIO participants – 168 (with many CIOs participating in more than two groups)
CHIME CIO members agree that the Focus Groups were thought-provoking and encouraged conversation amongst peers. After tabulating evaluations from all CIOs, here is a summary of some valuable feedback:
- 94 percent of respondents scored either Excellent or Good when asked to rate the overall value of their Focus Group
- Respondents reported the following strengths, in order:
- Engaging facilitators (86 percent)
- Attendee participation (82 percent )
- Relevant content (79 percent)
- Effective presentation (56 percent )
- Clear/informative objectives (44 percent )
- 12 percent of respondents felt the objective of the Focus Group was unclear.
Some of the most compelling quotes from CIO participants included:
“Great discussion on challenges that organizations are facing and priorities for the year and coming years.”
“This was very engaging and informative. I was able to get additional perspectives from other IT leaders in the industry.”
“Great topic – – like hearing from peers, what they are doing and challenges they are facing.”
“Useful tools and best practices. Thank you.”
“Great discussion with equal participation. More concept and less sales =>Big Plus!”
“Very effective getting the dialogue going. Patient, thoughtful discussion leader. Thank you.”
Based on the data and comments from our CIOs and Foundation partners alike, the CHIME Foundation team can draw some informative conclusions about what may be needed in the future to support successful Focus Groups. We will be pulling together a Focus Group committee in the next few months, a small team of CHIME CIO and Foundation members who can work together to further explore the current Focus Group process from start to finish, and make recommendations on improvements that will benefit both Foundation members and the experiences of CIO participants.
We want to thank all our Foundation partners for your part in making this year’s 2018 CHIME HIMSS CIO Forum and Focus Groups a resounding success. We welcome any thoughts, comments and suggestions you may have on these events for the future. Please don’t hesitate to email us at [email protected].
