CHIME and CHIME Foundation Congratulate 2020 Award Winners in Year-end Recap

ANN ARBOR, MI, Dec. 17, 2020 – As the year draws to a close, the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) and the CHIME Foundation are honoring members and Foundation partners whose outstanding contributions earned them special recognition in 2020. Ten members of the CHIME and CHIME Foundation communities were selected by their peers to receive prestigious awards this year. The 2020 award winners were:

 

 

“These award winners have shown exemplary leadership in an incredibly challenging year in healthcare,” said CHIME Board Chair John Kravitz, corporate CIO at Geisinger. “No one knows better than their peers how important their work has been for their organizations and for our industry. It is an honor to recognize them for all that they do.”   

 

“The partnerships between CHIME members and CHIME Foundation members have brought solutions to physicians, patients and others at a critical time,” said CHIME Foundation Board Chair Shafiq Rab, MD, chief digital officer and CIO at Wellforce Health System. “This is an opportunity to celebrate the people who helped to make it happen.”

 

The CHIME Collaboration Award recognizes a collaborative effort between a CIO who is a CHIME member and a CHIME Foundation firm that offers a benefit to the healthcare IT community. The winners are given an opportunity to share their innovative collaboration and its outcomes with CHIME members for possible application in other healthcare environments. Texas Children’s Hospital and Imprivata collaborated to deliver secure mobile solutions to physicians, nurses and patients that provided fast and easy access to information without compromising security.

 

The CHIME-AHA Transformational Leadership Award is given annually in conjunction with the American Hospital Association (AHA) in honor of a CEO and CIO whose organization developed and deployed transformational IT that improved the delivery of care and streamlined administrative services. Among the transformative IT initiatives at Children’s National is the Bear Institute for Health Innovation, which under the leadership of MacVey and Newman has built a more robust and secure IT environment, improved efficiency for providers, enabled research and collaboration across provider organizations, and responded swiftly and effectively to the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

The CHIME Outstanding Service Award recognizes a member who has shown extraordinary dedication to CHIME through participation in CHIME programs and volunteer service. A nationally recognized leader in healthcare cybersecurity, Meadows has served as a faculty member for the CHIME Healthcare CIO Boot Camp, the CHIME AEHIS Healthcare CISO Boot Camp and the CHIME Partners Education Summit; is a past member of the CHIME Board of Trustees; has presented at numerous CHIME education events, and more.

 

The Federal Public Policy Award for CIO Leadership recognizes a CHIME member who is a CIO or senior leader and has demonstrated leadership in educating Congress and administration officials at the federal level about the value of health IT and its role in patient care. Wilding is an active and engaged member of the Policy Steering Committee (PSC) who has helped shape policy recommendations presented by CHIME to policymakers. She has served as a speaker on numerous public policy topics and brings a passionate voice on leveraging technology to bridge the needs of high-quality care across the continuum.  

 

The Innovator of the Year Award is given annually to a member whose creative application of IT and innovative solutions brought value to his or her organization. Since 2015, Children’s Health has been certified by HITRUST. As their vice president and CISO, Long enacted the HITRUST Common Security Framework at Children’s Health and his team worked with HITRUST to launch HITRUST CyberAid at 80 physician practices to help them harden their cyber defenses.  

 

The Foundation Industry Leader Award recognizes a Foundation firm representative who has demonstrated exceptional dedication and made outstanding contributions to the healthcare industry, CHIME and the CHIME Foundation. It is the highest honor given to a Foundation firm member. Kirby has been an active Foundation partner member, serving on CHIME’s Women and Minority Scholarship Selection Committee and regularly co-presenting with CHIME members. She and her team have helped numerous healthcare organizations fill executive positions with exceptional leaders for over 30 years. She also serves as an executive career coach, helping job seekers transition into new roles. Kirby is a past recipient of the CHIME Collaboration Award, is a member of The Pinnacle Society, a group of the top executive recruiters in the country, and has served on the Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society.

 

The John E. Gall Jr. CIO of the Year award is given annually to a CIO who has shown significant leadership and commitment to the healthcare industry during his or her career. The recipient is selected jointly by the boards of CHIME and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). Probst, who retired from Intermountain this year and now is CIO at ELLKAY, has held numerous roles at CHIME, including chair of the CHIME Board of Trustees and an influential member of the PSC.

 

In addition to these awards, 33 members of CHIME and the CHIME Foundation were nominated by their peers as Healthcare Heroes. This ongoing program recognizes CHIME and CHIME Foundation members who have been working behind the scenes to find new and better ways to deliver health and care during the COVID-19 pandemic.
