CHIME Brings Four Dynamic Keynote Speakers to CIO Forum in Las Vegas

ANN ARBOR, MI, Feb. 13, 2018 – Four dynamic leaders will offer insights on topics ranging from healthcare innovation, digital medicine, workforce trends and strategies for overcoming adversity on March 5 at the CHIME-HIMSS CIO Forum in Las Vegas, the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) announced today. The lineup includes:

  • Nicholas Webb, a world-renowned enterprise strategist, best-selling author and futurist
  • Robert Wachter, M.D., an international expert on the impact of health IT and author of the New York Times best-selling book, The Digital Doctor: Hope, Hype and Harm at the Dawn of Medicine’s Computer Age
  • Seth Mattison, an expert on workforce trends and generational dynamics
  • Liz Murray, author of the best-seller Breaking Night: A Memoir of Forgiveness, Survival and My Journey from Homeless to Harvard

“Each one of our keynote speakers could stand alone as a headliner,” said CHIME Board Chair Cletis Earle, senior vice president and CIO at Kaleida Health in Buffalo, N.Y., and a CHIME-HIMSS planning committee member. “We wanted four thought leaders who could inspire and energize our members, but challenge them as well. Our members will come out with a vision of what they can accomplish and the pathway to get there.”

Webb will kick off the one-day event. An innovator with more than 45 patents, Webb invented one of the first wearable technologies and one of the world’s smallest medical implants. He is the author of The Innovation Playbook, The Digital Innovation Playbook and the best-seller What Customers Crave. In this session, he will discuss top five trends that will shape the future of healthcare, healthcare as a consumer product and designing market-leading patient experiences using the Internet of things, wearables and interoperability. He will also speak about the importance of leaders who can institutionalize “intrapreneurship” as a way to innovate in disruptive times and build superstar organizations.

Wachter will offer new insights and practical steps to overcome the so-called “productivity paradox” of IT as it relates to healthcare. In his widely cited work, he has highlighted the surprising impact of EHRs on workflow and communication. Moreover, his observations regarding the “digital squeeze” on doctors are at the heart of the struggle many healthcare organizations face. Wachter is a practicing physician, chairman of the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, and he chaired the National Advisory Group on HIT in England.

Mattison, a workforce strategist and management trend spotter, advises many of the world’s leading organizations on the key shifts occurring around change and innovation, leadership and the future of work. In this session, he will discuss the changing landscape and management models for developing talent and driving innovation; in particular, how leaders can leverage technology in the workplace to bridge and not widen the digital gap. Mattison will also investigate how leadership, strategy, and curating and shaping culture in the workplace has changed in the connected age while exploring how to create deeper and more meaningful relationships by better balancing time spent in the physical and virtual worlds.

Liz Murray rose from some of New York’s meanest streets to graduate from the Ivy League and has become an international speaker. The child of drug-addicted parents, she was homeless at age 15 – but determined to not to be defined by her circumstances. She earned her high school diploma in just two years and won a scholarship to Harvard University that would turn her bleak past into a future filled with possibility. Her memoir, Breaking Night, made the New York Times’ best-seller list and her presentations have inspired audiences around the world. In this session, she will share how perseverance, vision and the support of others can help you overcome adversity. In addition, she will discuss how you can adjust your thinking to lead a more purposeful life and how you can encourage others to follow the same path.
